Reviresco. Latin root of the English word “revival,” Reviresco adorns
the crest of the Scottish Society of Windsor Pipe Band. And no
organization has ever had a more fitting motto. Because the SSWPB’s
dedicated members inspire wherever they perform.
Established as a non-profit corporation in 1985, the SSWPB exists to
honour and promote Scottish culture and to support like-minded
organizations. The SSWPB has also become an annual fixture at the
Windsor-area Terry Fox Run and Remembrance Day ceremonies, in addition
to performing at events that raise funds for the Make-a-Wish
Foundation, cancer and autism research and children suffering from hearing disorders.
Featuring more than a dozen members, including a father and two sons, a
mother-daughter-son trio and (soon) a grandfather-grandson duo, the
SSWPB takes great pride in representing the City of Windsor.
Established in the 19th century with the help of Scottish immigrants,
Canada’s southern-most community is still home to nearly 40,000 people
who claim Scottish ancestry – more than 10% of the area’s total population.
Over the years, the SSWPB’s audiences have included a U.S. vice
president, representatives of the Organization of American States and
the field of the Detroit Grand Prix. Also known as “The World’s Most Dangerous Pipe Band,”
the SSWPB can be seen (and heard) at any Windsor-area festival where
beer is served.
